The estate takes its name from the listed dovecote, which clings to the cliff face.

We are situated away from the village, ensuring peace and tranquillity for our guests. The château has a 4-hectare estate: the grounds surrounding the house cover 1.5 hectares.

We have 1 hectare of woodland above the château, where walking trails have been marked out for adventures with the children. These join the hiking trail leading to the upper part of Mailly-le-Château.

Finally, the area surrounding the château consists of woodland and meadows, guaranteeing you absolute tranquillity – there are no immediate neighbours.

Mailly-le-Château has a café and tobacconist, a small, well-stocked grocery shop, and a remarkable panoramic terrace that is well worth a visit.

The château was completely renovated between 2023 and 2024, and offers:

• Five comfortable bedrooms, including two triple rooms (with a small separate room next door), each with an en-suite bathroom and a separate toilet.

• Two lounges: a large lounge with a television for pre-dinner drinks, and a small ‘cabinet of curiosities’ lounge where you can retreat with a good book.

• A huge kitchen-diner, fully equipped for 12 people, opening onto a large terrace with all the necessary outdoor furniture.

• A dovecote converted into a library and relaxation room, ideal for a nap away from the noise.

We offer a wide range of outdoor facilities:

Le Château du Colombier has a lovely 12-metre outdoor swimming pool.

It is usually open from May to mid-October, although these dates may vary depending on the weather.

It is heated to ensure you can enjoy a comfortable swim, even outside the hot summer days.

The swimming pool is fully automated: a control system automatically regulates the chlorine and pH levels, whilst the heat pump provides independent heating.

It is secured by a new pool cover that complies with child-safety standards to prevent drowning.

Sun loungers, armchairs, small tables and parasols are available for you to enjoy your time in the pool: rubber rings, inflatable mattresses and kickboards for the little ones...

What’s more, at the Château you’ll find a pétanque court, complete with boules, as well as a Molkky set.

The Gîte ‘Le Château du Colombier’ is located in the Yonne department, close to the region's most popular tourist attractions:

• Auxerre, Vézelay and Avallon,

• Arcy-sur-Cure and its fabulous prehistoric caves, the Bailly-Lapierre Cellars and the underground quarries of Aubigny, the perfect places to cool off in the summer!

• Chablis, its vineyards, its wine, and its new wine town,

• La Fosse Dionne and the Hôtel Dieu in Tonnerre,

• The castles of Guédelon, still under construction, Meaulnes, Ancy le Franc, Saint Fargeau and Tanlay,

• Fancy getting stuck in and doing some cooking yourself? Our chef Marie runs cookery workshops and shares her top tips.

• Fresh bread, croissants and pains au chocolat first thing in the morning? No problem – Cyril, our baker, will deliver them early in the morning without waking you, right next to the kitchen. All you’ve got to do is make the coffee!

• Time to relax: treat yourself to a massage from our masseuse, who’ll come to the Château with all her equipment.

• Do you have an artistic streak? Ask Céline to give you an introduction to painting on canvas for all ages; she’ll bring all the necessary equipment with her.

Activities near the Château:

• We work with Grégory, an e-bike hire company who can deliver the bikes straight to the Château. He also organises lovely guided rides through the surrounding vineyards – complete with a wine tasting, of course! A must-do in the region.

• Fancy a refreshing outing? Pascal will guide you on a canoe trip down the River Yonne, introducing you to the local history, flora and fauna: the trip sets off from Maily-la-Ville, just 2 km from the Château!
